The hand in the shot doesn't appear to be Dan's (wedding band, shirt rolled up), but at the same time, in other studio footage, the bass player appears to have an orange pedal on his board that doesn't show on the pic. I'm also a little thrown off by the TC PolyTune as Dan typically uses a Boss. I bought the Lonely Boy RSD single because it was a "limited" release. I don't particularly like Lonely Boy, but I'm sure I could sell it easily, since it hasn't been opened and played. That said, I own 2 copies plus the single, and I think El Camino is ok. It's growing on me, but it's certainly no Magic Potion or Rubber Factory. The first album I bought was Brothers and I knew ONLY Brothers at the time I bought El Camino. Brothers had a huge impact on me, it felt new and fresh, it felt like the sound I've always missed in my record collection and it revitalized my love for music in general. That's probably why I'll never forget the moment I pushed the play button and listened to El Camino for the first time - right from the beginning of Lonely Boy I knew it was going to be a huge disappointment. First, I was shocked by the up-tempo sound, later when the keyboard joined in I was like 'seriously?' and in the end, when the whole oh-oooh-oooh chorus began, I just knew they lost it on El Camino. I can only imagine how disappointed some of you must have been after knowing the band for many years. After all, I gave the album a few listens and didn't think much of it at first. I came back to it a few days later and suddenly became really excited about Money Maker and Sister, afterwards the whole record totally grew on me. Honestly, I've been in this 'off and on relationship' (if I can put it this way, haha) with El Camino since then. When the record grew on me for the first time, I felt like El Camino could be the best album of the year and I couldn't go though a day without listening to it at least once. Then I bought all their pre-Brothers records, which I fell in love with and realized once more how much of a disappointment El Camino is. I'm currently okay with the album but it is not my favourite and I'm pretty sure it never will be. After hearing some of the songs from El Camino live, I'm happy to say that at least they sound a bit more rough live than on the record. However, hearing something like Sister and I Got Mine during one set is almost heart-breaking. The new songs lack the soul, they lack the energy the old ones have, and most of all, they lack pure musical honesty. I don't intend to diss the album, as I've said I'm ok with it, but all I hear from El Camino is TBK trying to stay on top of the charts with their fast-made pop influenced rock'n'roll rather than do honest music just like they used to. I'm wishing for a new record that is raw and special. But after all, they need to make a living, it is all about money, I wouldn't be surprised if they continued doing what they did with El Camino. I hope they get a grip on themselves and realize what once made them so special.
