I'm sure Nappy knows what he's talking about and I enjoy reading his posts. The tongue-in-cheek point I was making was the music industry is all about money. I think we'd all agree that there wouldn't be a Black Keys band to listen to, unless you lived in Akron, if the music just didn't make money. So we can never know for sure. Personally I think that Pat and Dan (fuck, I'm already talking like I know 'em, haha!!) are creative genius (genii, whatever) and they've taken a music genre lost long ago and brought it to a new generation. Every album is different in a very good way. I would hope that they are their own designers, but if not, who gives a Coronation Street roof cat? To answer the title question: "Too Much Dangermouse?" I say yes. Too much. It is possible for a band to grow and evolve without overproduction. This is evident in the live shows during the A&R tour. One could tell their music evolved, yet it sounded raw and powerful... something that was lost with Brian's production. TBK does not need to sound 100% the same as they used to but they also don't need fancy production just to sound like they are "evolving". The new stuff I hear is still good but it sounds like Otis Redding doing a toothpaste commercial. The soul might still be there but...
