Interestingly the bad review is from a "blues" site. Obviously if you're expecting them to be like Taj Mahal or dare I say Eric Clapton and release variations on the same 12 bar blues tunes time after time, then yeah - this album is going to be a disappointment. "Since huge quantities of information can be computer-digitalized and transmitted, music researchers could, for example, swap records over the Net with "essentially perfect fidelity." - Rolling Stone, December 7, 1972 Posted 1 year ago #

My review of almost everyones reviews so far is simply this- They were not ready. They don't know what to think about it. They kinda sorta think something but they're not 100% sure. At least that's what it seems like. Very wish washy usually. They just weren't (and aren't) ready for all that is Brothers. The biggest shame is that there's no telling what kind of speakers/stereo they listened to it through. Besides the amazing music on the album, there are sick-ass production techniques being used. Someone else on this board mentioned it long before me, but the way this album sounds (not the music, the sound) is super fucking cool. The person that said it before said something like this - go listen to Brothers on a proper stereo at high volume, then listen to some other album, and you'll really notice the difference in the production/engineering/etc. Posted 1 year ago #

"The biggest shame is that there's no telling what kind of speakers/stereo they listened to it through." I respectfully disagree with your opinion on that Mirby. It's not the sound of the speakers that make a song good or bad. Even on bad speakers one can hear if a songs melody, for instance, is good. OK, so you miss out on some of the productiondetails but crappy speakers don't make good songs sound bad...good speakers just make them sound better. Posted 1 year ago #

Well with the exception of the scented jasmine tea blues (btw-- wtf? least bluesy blues name ever), the reviews are pretty positive. Though nobody sounds too blown away, they are most definitely digging this solid solid album. These reviewers might not be completely head over heals over Brothers (like I am!), but it seems like they at least "get" it, for which I am glad to see. This blood red ass don't smell so good... The jasmine tea blues review seemed to tell more about the reviewer than it did about the record. They might want to find a new hobby. "Makes me nervous." Posted 1 year ago #

the scented jasmine tea is a line from "Let It Bleed," the title track off of the Rolling Stones album. Second verse: I was dreaming of a steel guitar engagement just to clarify the origin of the name. as for the review itself...i'm still trying to decide whether or not I can disagree with it and be honest with myself. There have been certain times listening to Brothers that i really have felt like they weren't having as much fun actually making the music on this album as the others, which might make it their weakest yet...and then there are moments when I feel like, with some of the stuff these guys have been through, maybe they weren't making this one to have fun, but to let it all out...which is why it may be their best yet. myspace.com/themuskiesband Posted 1 year ago #

hey, I'm the author of Scented Jasmine Tea blog. I'm kinda sorry for not liking the new album - no pun intended. I really know how does it feel when others complain about your favorite LP. on the other hand, I like the band very much. see my other posts about them: http://scentedjasmineteablues.blogspot.com/search/label/the%20black%20keys > The jasmine tea blues review seemed to tell more about the reviewer than it did about the record. They might want to find a new hobby. "Makes me nervous." should I better say "uneasy"? it's not like every record should be made to get you in the mood with your girlfriend, but this one is definitely hard to bite for most if you know what I mean. and I wonder what does it tell about me cheers. i'm just fresh blood here, but yeah, let's not turn this into a grilling session where we start picking apart all the opinions that differ from us. it seems to be heading that way. i think there are some good points made in most of the reviews here, and youd have to have blinders on to not at least consider them in your own evaluation of Brothers Posted 1 year ago #
