Nitrayn, thanks a lot for the burger recommendation dude, I will definitely check that place out.

Man, I really hope that happens. Give us a little taste before they disappear for a while (from touring, I mean...)

nitrayn, stop blabbing about Kuma's Corner. You probably meant well, but it's already fucking impossible to get a table there without a 2 hour wait. You're ruining it for those of us that live in the neighborhood and USED to enjoy going there. They don't need your help with advertising, trust me.

Yes seriously. I know it's selfish, but it sucks when you live near a great local spot like Kuma's and then it gets overrun with outsiders. I don't mind sharing, but when it gets to the point that I can't even go there anymore (always a line out the door and a 1 to 2 hour wait) - we have a problem. There are several other spots in the neighborhood that this has happened to.

So yeah, I'm serious. Selfish and serious.

Send the tourists to Rock and Roll McDonalds or something. Don't give up the local secrets so easily.

Then I expect thast when you travel you don't visit any of these types of places? For respect of the locals?

When I travel I usually geek out and research the shit out of the city/area. I read reviews and ask people I know who've been there, etc. I do my homework. I've certainly been to places in the world where outsiders are frowned upon and treated as such.

I'm not saying I'm right. If you'll notice I did call myself selfish. I know it's wrong to feel the way I do, but that doesn't change the way I feel.

So if you're thinking of going to Kuma's, you'll wish you hadn't once you show up and find that it will be 2 hours until you get to sit down and order your food. Don't say I didn't warn you.

By the way, the solution to this problem is simple - Kuma's should expand. Why wouldn't they? I shit you not - EVERY SINGLE NIGHT OF THE WEEK this place is jammed to capacity and has at least a 1 hour wait. The reasons for this are of course that the food & beer selection is superb, but also they have a TINY area for tables/dining and a TINY kitchen. This equates to long wait times for tables and then long wait times for food. It gets slightly better in the summer when they can open up their backyard outdoor area, but not by much since the kitchen doesn't get any bigger.

They should make it big/capable enough for everyone to enjoy, then I wouldn't have to bitch about keeping it secret.

Outsiders? We don't take kindly to your kind 'round here...

Then I'll skip the bloody Kuma's and check out the RockNRoll McDonalds, which sounds awesome anyhow...

Don't mind me. I'm just grumpy because I bought tix for the NYE show but had to sell them since my wife is not working and the Holidays make me/us broke. I really wanted to see the show but I've seen TBK/Dan 7 or 8 times already and I need $$$ for food and rent and bills more than I need tix to the show. =(

Pardon my silly questions but what time are the doors going to open? Are their any distractions around the area of the riv that we can do to kill time until the show. My buddy and I are gonna get there around noon and hit up an afternoon showing of "the road" and nab some lunch but we'll still have several hours to waste. Is the area around the riv pretty safe to hang out near at night or is it kinda sketchy.

Sorry for the questions but I'm from a small(compared to chicago) city in WI and I don't know a whole lot about the area.

From Wisconsin eh? I'm from Green Bay. I've been living in Chicago since 2001 though. GO PACKERS!

Anyhow, The Riv is not in a "bad" neighborhood exactly but it isn't real pretty either. Just use your head - there will be homeless folks out and about and many will be intoxicated and acting stupid. No need to be frightened, just be firm but polite. Don't even stop to listen to their bullshit sob-story, just continuing walking and say "sorry man" or somthing like that.

Also be advised there is a hippy jam band show accross the street at the Aragon Ballroom so you may see some real shabby granola-folk wandering around too. They'll likely also be intoxicated but much more friendly and harmless.

There isn't a whole lot to do up there but I bet you will find a bar or food spot to chill at. Just stay on Broadway. From the Riv, walk south on Broadway and there are shops and bars. Not sure what will be open on NYE though. The bars may have cover charges and all-you-can-drink specials so you'll have to find a less-fancy dive-bar kind of place to avoid such cover charges and whatnot. Or just go to a coffee shop.
