you know i am so infatuated with Dan's tone that I have a clone project going on right now; I am rebuilding an old Harmony H45 to resemble Dan's Harmony H47. I have been working on guitars for a few years now and one of my suppliers had a Jerry Donahue Telecaster body and neck for sale. I got excited and asked him to hold it for me, unfortunately, someone slipped in and offered more money than i wanted to pay for it, so i lost out. I had been planning on making a clone of Dan's Tele because like i said i love Dan's Tone.

this thread has been biting at me ever since then, i just wanted to get that out

Yes sir.. Dan's tone is amazing. Ive acquired some small tube amps, and new pups in the last couple years and can get close (enough to please MY ears, anyway) to the nastiness of his tone. And, I'm gona take it a step further on my birthday. I don't have a Tele, but my main guitar is an American Sunburst Strat. Totally gona cop Dan's style and get an El Dorado black leather pick-guard. And I'm not ashamed of it one Fucking bit. Everything that guy does, when it comes to music,.. I'm diggin' it.

I bet Stackshotmazz surely has this pic but I've never seen it..
Found on facebook, it says: "the Union . Athens, OH . 2001ish ."
I don't think is 2001, but 2002, right?

Well Mr.ssippi, at least we get to be "drunken" now while we wait for some more or *shudder* less flattering classification.

I have some photos I shot at a show in Omaha in March of 2003. It's the Jerry D. Tele with black pickguard and traditional 3-saddle bridge. Basically the exact guitar in stackshotmazz's post above with Dan in studio with the navy blue t-shirt on. Hope that helps with your time line.

So which DiMarzio pickups has Dan had in his Tele with each version the guitar's gone through??...seems everyone is in agreement that they are DiMarzio, but which ones?

Brilliant thread btw, just read it all ..... in the market for a tele as I have no solid body guitars anymore.

He used a DiMarzio Chopper DP184 (stratocaster pickup) in the neck postition, and a Chopper T DP384 in the bridge.
