I dig dark creepy spooky stuff. The EQD Ghost Echo is right up my alley in terms of both looks and sound. I will have one - oh yes, I will.

I don't think I want to get rid of my Reel Echo to fund it though, simply because the Reel Echo can do more delay type stuff whereas the Ghost Echo is a reverb pedal with some slight delay capabilities (slapback echo). We'll see, I'm more of a reverb/slapback guy than I am a delay guy - but occasionally I like to do some psych freakout stuff with some delay on it...

I enjoy my MI Audio Blues Pro. It has a switch between OD and Fuzz and love the sound it makes with all my guitars. That Sole-Something giant ass box is saweeeeeet though!

what is the Kalamazoo based off of? is it an old amp?

I've heard about these things for a little while but never dug any deeper to find out about them.

I gotta tell ya I got a EQD Zap machine recently-- My favorite pedal by far. Very versatile-- with some tweaking I can get a standard boost, a OD, and a real fuzzed out sound. With the right tweaks I can even get MFZ-1 sounds and near rat tones. Put it this way: I got the zap machine and I sold my TBK fuzz lol. Check it out--silly name- great pedal.

I like to use a Maestro Fuzz MFZ-1 and a Phoenix Custom Electronics "The Fuzz". I like to run each pedal separately with their own amps at the same time. The first one has some bite to it and the second one I can set it in a way where it'll give me a lot of warmth and bass, combined they sound pretty wicked. Other times I'd just run one amp clean and the other one all fuzzed out.

that sounds like a cool setup japas, how do you split the signal though? I've not seen anything that does that? like a double adapter lead or some shit?

well the best overdrive, imo, comes from your amp. So I just bought a Weber mini mass attenuator. can't wait to check it out. Just gotta wire my amp a little differently...

http://taweber.powweb.com/weber/minimass.htm

I got the balanced out option for an extra $15, and I got a free Weber t-shirt. If you spend over $100 through the month of august, you get a free shirt, pretty cool.

This will help me be able to get cranked amp tones at bedroom levels, and it'll help me record at my drummer's apt where we also have to be somewhat quiet. It takes upto 14 days for them to ship, because they have to build it first, but I'll report back once it arrives.

Holy fuck, I got the attenuator today and it fucking RULES. If you have a badass amp that you never get to crank because of volume restrictions... this is what you need. Dead serious. Amazing piece of gear for those of us that can't get loud whenever we want.

And for only $100. Unreal. The Weber stuff is real nice. The treble boost switch is definitely needed - using an attenuator kills off some of the highs but when I switch the treble switch to 3db it sounds perfect again. That switch has 3 settings - zero/unity, and then 3db boost or 6db boost. Oh and it has 4 ohm, 8 ohm or 16 ohm selector so you can use it with any/all of your amps.

Man I can't believe I never bought one of these things until now. For years I've been playing tube amps at whisper levels because of bitchy neighbors and just dealing with the mediocre tones. Everyone knows you have to crank up a tube amp to get the natural tube overdrive/fuzz going. This device lets me do it.

Plus when you play a cranked tube amp, it's super touch sensitive and dynamic so you can get cleans if you play soft or you can dig in hard and get the real dirty dirty.

I'll stop gushing now.

I found the Weber MicroMass colored the tone WAY too much. Based on your review, it sounds like the MiniMass might be better. They use different methods for attenuating the signal if I remember correctly. The MicroMass lacks the treble boost feature, which is what made it sound too dark for me. I might have to dig mine up and give it another shot though. You definitely can't get a Black Keys-esque sound without a cranked amp.

To be 100% honest the amp sounds slightly better when cranked without an attenuator but that's not an option for me so that doesn't really count. If I could crank my amp I wouldn't have to buy the Mini Mass.

Yeah there are two types that Weber sells. One type uses resistors to attenuate, and the other uses actual speaker motor and resistors. The speaker motor one is what I have. It doesn't really change the tone all that much from what I can tell. It definitely sounds fuckin rockin. This is so awesome. I can play my amp again!!!

Also, I have a Greenback reissue in there now because the stock speaker is old and thin and I didn't want to shred it but now that I can keep low volume, I'm going to put the stock speaker back in because it's much more broken-in and should sound more sensitive for the low volume stuff. The Greenback is too stiff right now and sounds good but not as good as it would if it was nice and loose.

That's pretty cool. I was thinking about an attenuator if I ever got a new amp, since all the amps I've been thinking about lately haven't had a master volume control. The amp I have right now has a master volume control eventhough I try to keep it wide open as much as I can.

I know some of these attenuators have wattage limits, does the Mini mass have one?

Yes I have the 25 watt MiniMASS. You can get 50Watt as well. And you can go higher if you get a different model. They say to use one that is rated twice the power of your amp. Since my Musicmaster is rated at 12 watts RMS, I use a 25 watt attenuator. It didn't heat up or smell funny or anything. Worked like a charm.

I paid $15 extra for the balanced out option. My drummer requested that because he's in charge of recording and he said we might want it. I could have gotten a headphones jack for $25 more but I skipped it. I got an awesome free Ted Weber t-shirt too for ordering over $100.

What a great little device. I'm so happy to be able to play my amp properly. I wish I never sold my 65 Ampeg Gemini now.
