I'm not too turned on by that Chrysalis. It sure does look cool though. I'd rather have a Hoof, Dirt Transmitter, Ghost Echo, etc.

I had a Earthquaker Dirt Transmitter but it lost it's zing after a while so I sold it, just was not for me. I use an Analogman SunFace and it's a better sounding fuzz to my ears. For overdrive a Boss BD2 or TS9 pedal with an Analoman silver Mod works pretty good. Both are pretty transparent with the TS9 more mid range sounding (which can work to your benefit live). In some cases a good boost pedal works wonders too. I use a Keeley Katana Clean Boost which sounds fantastic. Boosts everything I like about my amp, adds harmonics and balls.

Have not tried the Tone Reaper. I remember when Jamie built those as a limited edition thing. Cool pedal. I use a homemade Fulltone Soul Bender clone for my MKII Tonebender needs.

Does your clone have three knobs?

That's personal.

Kidding. Yes it has three knobs. Why do you ask?

Oooh very personal. Then I think it's a MK III.

I have a MK II clone I built and it's a two knober (hehehe)

I think that the MK III's and VI's have a tone knob on them that works backwards.

You could be right. Probably are. Right on. I did build an MKII clone once upon a time. It sounds real nice. I sold it to someone on this forum. Actually the old forum but they're here now too. And yes my Soul Bender clone has the tone knob that works backwards.

Kind of a quick shitty pic but I just wanted to show it off. Works like a charm. Looks cool too.

I believe that the Soul Bender and the Tone Reaper where based off of the Tonebender MKIII. I'm sure that there is some MKII inspiration somewhere in both builds. Creepy Fingers does make a 3-knobbed MKII build, but I think that's just a bias knob. I think there has been some other 3-knob MKII's I've seen around from small builders.

The MKIII and MKIV are sweet as hell. Not as raspy as earlier tonebenders, but still loud and fuzzy as hell. Great for old ZZ Top type stuff. maybe even some stoner rock stuff! I was even getting into Siamese Dream Smashing Pumpkins with my MKIII. I may end up trying out some muffs soon I never thought I would care much for stomp boxes when I started out, now I'm loving life with these

Yeah you're absolutely right. MKII is a Tone Bender with a volume knob and a drive knob. If it has a tone knob as well, it's technically an MKIII.

The bias adjustment is KEY. I can get some great Thickfreakness tones with my Soul Bender clone when I have the internal bias trimpot set right (which it usually is, just depends on the temperature of the room).

When I think of Siamese Dream I think Big Muff all the way. That's cool you got some of those tones out of an MKIII.

Yeah muffs are great but I don't care for the new/standard Russian muff. I like the Green Russian clone I built and I like the Hoof a lot. Whatever you buy, make sure it's built to last. The EH Muffs are not really.

And yeah fuzzes are great when used properly. They sound so good when you're hitting an amp with them that's set right. The whole - slightly dirty amp then hit it with a fuzz. With the right volume and the right tweaks, it's pure gold.
