i think i'm only going to buy this record on vinyl

just found out something about the vinyl release that will make it a worthwhile decision (sorry, i can't say exactly what, since it will spoil the anticipation)

tbk clearly holds vinyl dear, witness the dead wax etching and record day store releases over the years

not every band does that. more to collect but then again more to love. in a sense, tis what being a fan is about me thinks.

I'm going to guess it has the Ohio bonus track and remixes on it.

aww yeah. please let if have Ohio on it. this will be my first black keys vinyl since I swiped my grandma's record player out of storage a couple months ago.

it makes sense to have Ohio since there are only 3 songs on the b side of the second vinyl and all the other sides have 4 songs.

Vinyl is certainly groovy. (see what I done did there?)

For those that have been talking about starting a vinyl collection and whatnot, it may be worth your while to invest in a decent turntable and receiver/speakers. Doesn't have to be expensive, but if you're trying to listen to a Keys record on a Playskool kids toy turntable well, let's just say please don't do that, haha.

This is what I'm workin' with, and it isn't even anywhere near top of the line. This is just a little something that is a step or two above your average $89 turntable.

Just something to think about. Not trying to tell you what you HAVE to do, just suggesting you consider it. It's great that you're into vinyl, but it makes a world of difference when you have some decent equipment too. I used to use an old 70's turntable I found at the thrift store and it was actually not bad once I replaced the stylus, but the thing is with those old turntables the belt is probably all cracked and hard and your speed is going to be off and it will also probably vary (fast then slow then fast then slow) which it makes the record sound shitty.

Anything is better than listening to it through your computer speakers though, unless you have external ones that are half way decent.

Ok, I'm feeling like I'm being all preachy and know-it-all right know but I'm really just trying to help.

I bought this turntable at Mirby's suggestions last year. It is by far the best I've owned. Wont go wrong.

Haha, I forgot about that. Glad you dig it. It's a little pricey compared to other entry level tables, but it's soooo nice (bang for your buck). Direct drive (no belt to worry about) with quartz controlled timing. It plays 33 and 1/3, 45's, and 78's. It's got everything, speed adjustment +/- 10% (maybe 20%, I forget).

I use the speed adjustment only rarely but for example - Rolling Stones Beggars Banquet LP plays at a slightly slower speed than intended. that is, when they recorded the music (or maybe when they pressed it to vinyl?) one way or another it ended up just a tad too slow. Which changes the pitch and tempo and everything... SO, when I play that record I usually bump up the speed just a tiny bit (to the first marker on the slider).

Oh and I know the secret about the vinyl! If you play it backwards, there's a hidden message that reveals an email address you can write to and you get your very own Frank the dinosaur puppet!

BTW, the turntable mentioned can do this (play in reverse). Which is perfect for special promos like this one!

I don't really understand the need for vinyl nowadays?

I appreciate you fat yanks think bigger is better but, to save space in our tiny British houses and for better sound clarity, the MP3 must take centre stage.

Thats intersting, this band we're all talking about probably doesn't see the need for any format other than vinyl.

To each their own...but make mine vinyl please.

Vinyl doesn't crash like your hard drive eventually will.
Vinyl sound has an unmistakable warmth to it.
Vinyl smells good.
I get a warm fuzzy feeling when I cozy up in my living room with some greenery and/or a beer and soak up the sweet sweet music while my turntable gently glows and spins in the corner.
Vinyl feels good to hold.
With vinyl, you play the record and sit and really enjoy and experience it while you look at the artwork and read the credits and lyrics.
With MP3's you're more likely to just put it on for background music while you do something else - this happens far less with vinyl because you have to flip it over after each side is finished.

Don't get me wrong, I like MP3's too. I can't take records in the car or on vacation or out with me when I go running, etc. They have their place and they are wonderful.

But NOTHING compares to the experience of an album on vinyl with a proper hifi setup. When I really want to expereience an album, my turntable is the only way for me. My #1 choice when I have the option.

Oh and my record collection is not taking up all the space in my apartment. If it were, my wife would nag the shit out of me until I corrected the situation. But I recently bought her an Elvis 45rpm that she wanted so she can't say much for awhile.

Hey, I know there is a maaaaad following for vinyl. I'm not disputing that and I hope they do make a vinyl edition.

I was just trying to get an idea why people still do use vinyl. Is it perhaps a nostalgia thing?

EDIT:

I THINK YOU HAVE JUST SUMMED IT UP, MIRBS.

AND I DON'T ACTUALLY EXIST SO I CAN'T POSSIBLY PUT A PICTURE UP!
