I think one of the main things I'm thinking is that they didn't intend this as the single to be released? this BBC dude chose it as the one he wanted to play. The band wanted howlin' for you to be first single out as there interpretation of the album. They may not think this is the strongest song off the album but this guy did. He sounds like he'd be trying to drop the dangermouse line in there every chance he got as more people would probably recognise that name.

I had a listen to it with that in mind and i think it is sweet! as rollercoaster said above they are far too creative to repeat themselves and i don't see why they should. Dan is feeling this and you can tell he has gotten a hell of a lot more polished lately which is not necessarily a bad thing. I think this song is more polished than any other keys track but again if people here it on the radio and go hey that's groovy i can get into that, then go to a live show, they are gonna have there brains blown out by the stripped down fuzz pedal annihilation that the band brings to the stage! then they see the old blues shit and get into that and that is a good thing and they will never think of normal music the same again and will open up a whole new world for them.

Dans def bringin the hacienda and solo feel back to it and pat is definitely bringing the blakroc drums in. and that is a huge part of their influences. Dan was always gonna get into that sort of stuff in my opinion but maybe he never used to feel like his playing was up to scratch. Of course in my opinion he's always kicked ass! but as all musicians will know your never as good as the guy you idolise and you'll never be completely satisfied with what your playing. Pat of course has always been a huge hip hop fan and he would have loved the blakroc project and would have brought it back to this now.

But to say that because this is the dangermouse produced song makes it like blakroc doesn't make sense. I didnt think dangermouse had anything to do with blakroc?
could be wrong but thats what i thought. Obviously there is a comparison of styles but in terms of actual producing of the album.

oh and i meant to say to brucini that i know the keys don't like people to steal music but i think everyone or at least hopefully everyone that gets that link off of this forum will go to a show and will buy the album no matter what so it should all workout fine.
But i know that people don't always respect that the musicians need to be paid for their work and will steal it and that's a shitty thing to do but even Dan said in his 120 seconds interview that came up a couple of says ago that some people may never hear the music if they didn't steal it and that he hopes that they will then come to a show and support the music and that'll be cool for everyone.

i admit i have a couple of tracks that are the rarer ones that i've got from less than honest places but the thing is i have bought all the cd's and some more than once as i lost them hell i even managed to get three copies of Attack and release! 1 on pre-order 1 that came in the vinyl and 1 that i bought in a shop the day it came out because i couldnt wait for the 6 weeks shipping out too Aus. then the 4 live shows 15 posters every album on vinyl again and about 15 shirts and all the gear i can lay my hands on so i feel i can say i supported them somewhat. so i'm cool for getting a couple of the less honest downloads as i cant get them anywhere else but still people just support the music and help them keep doing what we love!

@tbkmagic yeah no dramas. it's a slice of published radio. i think those who made the song available underestimated that it would be embedded in the bbc site and therefore public so soon for sharing.
no doubt every other song will be shared once the album comes out. not sure this forum is the best trading place for those type of downloads moving fwd because of reasons previously stated.

@ tbkmagic: You're totally right! People have to move on and I know they won't make a secong Big Come Up or Thickfreakness. There were people saying that A&R was "overproduced", but hell, how long could a two-piece make stripped down rock'n'roll in their basement without feeling bored or repeating themselves?!

Regarding Kings Of Leon - I really liked them, up to their third album. But now they're trying to be U2 (which they practically admitted in interviews) and make unblievable disgusting "we want to be big, too" music. Fortunatley I don't see that happening to the Keys.

Wham bam, thank you m'am.

lol ah what a band... don't think there are many bands that can instill discussion about their direction quite as much! hey i juts noticed listenin to the flame...

"Greater men have made it here only to turn back
So cut me loose if you want, or tighten up the slack"

i've noticed with dan has alot of similar vibes through some of his choones. I for one can get certain lines and vibes that i will try out in different contexts and songs i think its cool man that these things may ring through! if i ever got the chance to properly get my music out there im sure people would think hang on thats the 3rd time hes mentioned <insert lyric here> lol.

gradually gettin more excited about the album after my initial anti climax, more excited coz i dont no wot to expect at all now! which is only a good thang!

Don't expect anything. Expectations ruin many things. Example- your friend tells you he saw this new movie you've been wanting to see and he says it was horrible. So when you finally go to see it, you're expecting it to be horrible so maybe you come out of it and tell your friend "oh it wasn't bad actually". Or the flipside- he tells you the movie was the best movie ever made yadda yadda yadda and so when you go see it you're expecting the best movie ever and you end up hating it because you expected too much, or you expected something different. Try not to expect things.

Kings of Leon- their first album is so god damned good it's scary. Then Aha came out and it was still pretty cool but you could tell they had no intentions of keeping with their bluesy/southern rock roots. Then the 3rd album came out, pretty weird stuff with the screeching and whatnot. Then their latest, which is some shit that girls probably listen to while they put on their makeup, yikes. Sad sad story there. Grimey southern rock band turns into a money making sissy fest. I'd still love to have their 1st album on vinyl though.

And to put your fears to rest, The Black Keys will not be well-received by the average KOL fan so don't worry about that. I suspect most KOL fans are recent bandwagon jumpers and probably aren't interested in quality music like TBK. They want whiney bad haircutted arenahumping sellout music.

Oh and Brucini, I totally understand that you can't allow filesharing links on this board. But part of me wonders if we should really have any rules here at all. The Black Keys decided they did not want to have an official message board, so to me, they waived their right to say shit about anything we do here. Especially considering the way it was done - no warning, just lights out.

I realize you have ties to the band, and I do respect them and love their music. But I loathe censorship and the such. This is our internet. So sorry that people now have a means to get mp3's for free but that's just life (and anyways, easy come easy go because hard drives do not last forever). Happens all the time these days. Technology advances and people who are making money have to change their plans/ideas. One minute, dvd people are making money, next minute there are DVD burners for sale and now people can just copy movies, then another minute later Blu-Ray discs come out and blu-ray people are making money...

There are ways around it believe me-

1. Make the album art really awesome, with lyrics inside, etc.
2. Include bonus stickers/patches/posters/dvd/etc inside the album when you buy it.
3. Make great music so people want to buy tix to come see you play it live.
4. Make great t-shirts and merch to sell on your website and at your shows.
5. Stop making music and get a real job. Seriously. I'd rather have people steal my music than have to work a 9-5 job like I do now. I know being a musician is hard work but it's what you love doing. Most people don't have that luxury to do what they love for a living.

I know I'm going to get a lot of shit for this post, so just let the record show that I do own copies of every single Black Keys album on cd AND on vinyl. This includes Dan's album, and many albums that Dan has produced. I also have 5 or 6 Black Keys t-shirts and have been to countless Dan/TBK shows since 2003. Not trying to brag, just trying to explain that I have paid, and continue to pay for stuff I dig. But if I can get it off the web before it comes out, I'm going to do so (and then buy it once it comes out). I'm a fan, why wouldn't I want the music asap? Bands kill me with that shit- you want me to be a huge fan who just can't wait for the next single or album, but then you get pissed when I can't wait for the next single or album???

First off, love the track. I like to see musicians branch out and expand, and I have yet to be disappointed by anything that Dan and Pat have tried. I'm diggin the song, and I love to hear a little 60s/70s funky soul thrown in the mix. I'd be surprised if the whole album was like this because I can't see there not being some good ol' scuzzed out rockers, but I've tried to keep my mind open and not have too many expectations where Dan and Pat are concerned.

As far as the filesharing issue, I respect Brucini's stance about not posting links on the forum out of respect for the band. I do think, however, that sharing these types of files isn't wrong since this is not something that is even available for sale. My rule is, when any Keys or Dan/Pat music is available for sale, I'll buy it. Things like this, and any of the rare tracks that are floating around out there, I will download with no guilt since it's not like I'm taking money out of the band's pocket. Much like Stingybrim, I have 7 or 8 t-shirts, all the albums in multiple formats, and have been to multiple shows, all of which I have gladly paid for. I think it's important to support artists you enjoy and respect by giving them money for the work they do.

As for downloading things like albums early, I can't say that I haven't done it. Before A&R came out, there was a lot of talk about the album and I ended up downloading a copy early, and while I still bought the album the day it came out, I think having it early took away from the excitement of the album actually coming out. I don't think downloading albums early is necessarily the right thing to do, but I think if you do buy a copy when it is available you sort of un-do that wrong. I, for one, am going to try my best to not get a hold of "Brothers" prior to the release date, because I think waiting until I can get a real copy will make me appreciate it more. Just my opinion, everyone has their own and one is just as valid as another. Can't wait until 5/18...

Love the new track!! I dont see where anyone gets off saying they are heading towards selling out or how this sounds like top 40. Its way to raw to be top 40. There are some great riffs in their. The Keys have always been about simplicity and the chord progression is simplistic. and how can you listen to that awesome drum track and think top 40. No top 40 song has that sort of beat or has that raw of an inyour face beat. Love the soul vibe. Dans vocal kills!! love it and I cant wait for the album. And people gotta get over wanting them to sound like they did three or four albums ago. Hate to break it to you all but musics dont stay the same , they progress and grow.

to JTX, hell yes son, Magic Potion is awesome! That was such a badass tour too. Dan was a beastly crazed wildman with his grizzly-ass beard and rocked the FUCK out of that Ibanez lawsuit SG.

People hate on MP a lot, and I just don't get it. That is as raw as it gets right there.

So uh, when can I pre-order this shit?

And I hope the band does something cool/unique for the first 50 pre-orders or whatever. A little incentive to pre-order through the band's site is always good. Signed copy of the album or even something as simple as a free limited edition sticker or whatever.

"Its way to raw to be top 40"

I think our defintions of raw may be different. Please see "The Big Come Up"

"No top 40 song has that sort of beat or has that raw of an in your face beat"

Which top 40 bands are you listening to these days?

As I mentioned in a previous post, I have no interest in hearing Thickfreakness II. I don't want them to make the same records. But I don't want them to head in the over produced, catch pop tune direction either. We obviously don't hear the same things (Please see definition of raw above).
I apologize for having a dissenting opinion. I am still looking forward to the rest of the album.

I agree stingy, magic potion is the shiznit. Its my favorite full length album theyve released. And ive watched ebay diligently for an Ibanez Lawsuit SG to come up, one did just like dans cept it was like $3000.

As for the top 40 comment, i agree with kepnerb. The Black Keys music is no where near mindless enough to be top 40.
