As far as I know, recording music from the Internet for private use is currently legal. Recording and distributing content by posting it on the internet may not be legal, depending on the use of the content being 'fair' -- which I think it would be in this case? I could very well be wrong. These copyright laws are a pain.

Having said all that, I have no problem with Brucini's decision to remove the link at the request of management as I said in the post regardless of the legal aspect. Being someone that is damn near obsessed with this bands music, I really appreciate this resource we have now that makes news or other information about the band so much easier to come across when before I would have to spend hours searching for rare songs or interviews. I definitely see how we would all want to avoid damaging any relationship this site could have with TBK. I certainly do not want to mess with "the bands grand plans", or more likely Warner Bros. grand plans, whatever those are.

I posted the link out of frustration because most of us were not able to listen to the song that all of the UK had access to. Not to steal the song and distribute it and popularize the link. Of course I could have been patient and waited until it came out over here, but I guess that is just not exciting. I assume anybody that visits this site is already a huge fan and would not rip off the band. Some of us might download a leak if it comes out, but I am sure the majority of us would have already pre-pordered the album if we could anyway.

Apologies if I got you into trouble, Brucini.

Well, i'm trying to approach this song and album different than A&R. After the first few run thru's of A&R i wasn't impressed. But it grew on me. I accepted that it was a statement of where they were in their music at the time and that it's not going to be a "Thickfreakness" feel every album. That being said, no, I don't like the song. However, that may change. Didn't like "All you ever wanted" at all the first bit, but now when i listen to it and the organ kicks in at the end it feels good every time. I don't believe Tighten Up is a representation of what the entire "Brothers" album will be. So i'm not alarmed. I just can't wait to hear the rest of it! And yes, support the bands you love!

So sorry to get in the way of the band's GRAND PLAN. I'm sorry, I thought that their grand plan was to be professional musicians, and I thought that me handing them my hard earned dollars was HELPING their grand plan, not HINDERING it.

What a crock of shit. It's like I said earlier, they want us to be big huge fans who just can't wait for the next single or album to drop... and then they get pissed off when we just can't wait for the next single or album to drop. Get over it. I don't know about you guys but I rent a tiny apartment and live paycheck to paycheck. I could give a shit about pleasing Warner Bros or their grand fucking plan. Those guys aren't going to starve, and neither are Dan, Pat or their families.

Here's an idea, DON'T LEAK YOUR MUSIC. It's your own damn fault. Not ours. You let the horse out of the barn, we're just chasing it. If you hadn't let it out in the first place, there would be no issue here. So don't come at us like WE did anything wrong. And if you still think I did anything wrong, call the fucking cops asshole. Get yourself a lawyer.

To clarify, I'm not mad at TBK, just stating my opinions. As you can see, I don't have any sympathy for record companies, especially ones like Warner Bros. If this was Fat Possum or Alive or a cool label trying to scrape by, then I'd be more sympathetic.

Also, if certain people are worried about other people downloading music, perhaps they should use a more secure host than MySpace, check this out...

Make sure you read the last part of the article.

Seems to me that Warner Bros and their Grand Plan should get smarter than the rest of us and then they wouldn't have to worry. But what do I know, I'm just a fan...

I don't usually post anything, but I read everybody's post all the time. I have to say that these last couple projects done by The Black Keys have been very different from what I felt in love with. I understand bands move on and all, and the new stuff is different and I fairly like it ... but I do miss the old days.

those are my two cents.

I have to agree with Stingy about the leak thing. They put it on the internet, no one else it at fault.

I think Stingy is on the right track here. Warner released a track for the BBC, and allowed it to be streamed on the internet. I have to believe that Warner knows that people can download anything that is being streamed, and can get around a country-only firewall. As I see it, Warner made the mistake here. At least they had the sense to put it up on MySpace after they took the link down. I also agree about the whole GRAND PLAN thing. It's great that the Warner people have figured the exact date to release the track to build buzz, but I'm more interested in the music rather than the band/label's marketing plan.

I think it was ok to post the rapidshare link since only people in the UK were able to listen to it. But in my opinion this site should not be a sharing site for whole albums. B-sides, rarities, live shows - I think that's ok.

Hey, and Stingy - I'm pretty sure no one is pissed because you downloaded the BBC thing or might download the leak from the album since you're a fan and will buy the album. They're afraid of people who don't give a shit about the band and download the album and never get a real copy. I'm pretty sure that excludes all of the people here.

Wham bam, thank you m'am.

It's cool. Just had to vent a little. Sometimes some people can get a little too big for their britches. That's when I feel the need to step in and remind them of us little people.

just to clarify, nobody here is "pissed" about the link. and i certainly don't think anybody did anything wrong. i thought i made that clear in my original posting, so if i didn't, i sincerely apologize.

i understand your frustration and i'm not trying to discourage you from finding the music. i'm just asking that you don't post it here. and i'm merely asking as a courtesy to the unfolding release plan. as well as to myself and to brucini. i just don't want to damage any relationship with this site because people working on these promotions will see the links on here and think a) i fed them/was aware of them and will request i stop sharing info or b) that you guys, the true fans that we feel sure will actually go out to buy the album on record store day or release day, may not rush out to get it because you already have everything. that probably isn't the case for anybody in this forum but it's a fear that comes up often. does that make sense to everyone?

and just to let you know... we didn't put tighten up online in the uk. they sent the song to radio for premiere. airplay was the only plan. the station then added the song to an online player without our knowledge. it wasn't something we approved or had any hand in. nobody here had any idea it was up. so when that happened we put the song on myspace as soon as we could because if it's already out there we want it to come from the band's pages, not second hand. you shouldn't have to hunt it down when we're here to give it to you (of course without actually "giving" it to you ). as far as people ripping it and sharing it, who can stop that? it's impossible. i'm not in the game of hunting down people and taking these things out of their hands. i was simply asking that the link be taken down so the premiere could get as many eyes and as much traffic as possible. and in the name of that i wanted to discourage you all from posting any further links on this forum.

again, i fully understand your frustration and i'm fully aware of position to some as the enemy. hopefully in due time, though, i'll change some of your minds.

post up the next couple singles and we'll call it even.

Can't wait for the next leak in April. This is probably my most anticipated album this year along with Cunninlynguist - Oneirology.
