Seems Dan has annoyed a few locals of the Muscle Shoals region where they recorded their new album over 10 days in August
Methinks the locals just aint seeing the funny side of Dan and Pat's humor.
Check out this cracker of a post repeated in full from here: http://haleyleigh.tumblr.com/post/267307349/dear-dan-auerbach-its-time-for-you-to-listen-to
"Dear Dan Auerbach,
It’s time for you to listen to a story. Once, in college, I was at a party with some friends and ran into someone I knew in high school from a neighboring town. All of our mutual friends at the party wanted to know how we knew each other, and I replied, “She’s from the shithole town that was beside my shithole town,” and she gave me a demeaning look and stormed off. At the time, I figured she was pissed because she was really drunk off wine coolers (no lie) and, most of all, I didn’t care because I wasn’t too fond of her.
However, the next day, I realized I had been an uber bitch in calling her town a shithole. Of course, it is a shithole, but who the fuck am I to say that to her? I’ve never lived there, and it’s her town, not mine. It’s kind of like family; it’s OK if I talk about them, because they’re my family, but if someone else says anything negative about them, I will defend my family to no end. They’re my crazies, not yours.
I promise, I’m getting to my point. My point is this: You’re now the uber bitch, Dan. After your duo recorded your soon-to-be-released album in my area, you’ve said these things to various publications:
I have no idea how things got recorded there. For the 10 days Patrick and I were in Muscle Shoals, we both wanted to shoot ourselves!
To be honest, we could have gone anywhere and made this record. We just wanted to get out of town and be isolated. And we were literally going crazy because it was so boring there. You couldn’t even go get a cup of coffee.
I’ll admit that I’ve called my area some not-so-flattering things. I think “special ed” and “Sarah Palin country” have crossed my lips. But I’ve lived here almost my entire life, besides college, and you were here 16 days. I have a right to talk about this town; you don’t.
Sincerely,
Haley
P.S. You obviously weren’t looking for coffee because there’s quite a few coffee shops.
P.P.S. The “Sam Phillips Marriott” doesn’t exist, so stop citing it in interviews.
P.P.P.S. It is actually pretty boring here.

Judging from the Rolling Stone article, the Keys didn’t venture out much while they were in Muscle Shoals. Actually, Muscle Shoals Sound Studios is in Sheffield, but I’m being a nit picking local, I guess. This area is hardly a “ghost town” and I’m concerned that the guys would slam our area and its music scene based on a bad experience at one studio. But their comments are creating a buzz in the area, unfortunately, a negative one. Thanks Keys."
