demoderbydrvr perhaps you missed my apology? read on-

Everyone is welcome here. It's just a bit uncool to join for the sole purpose of scoring the album. I can't prove that anyone joined for the sole purpose of scoring the album. I'm probably wrong about that- in fact.

I neglected to acknowledge the fact that whenever the Keys are on the brink of a new album, fans get excited and want to start chatting. So that's more likely what the new member situation is all about.

I'm all for new members. We need more fans here. Always. I just thought it was odd that 10 people signed up the day the of the leak. But as I said, it does make more sense now that I think about it.

Sorry for being crazy all.

demoderbydrvr,

Ask questions, learn about the band. We know many people that are signing up aren't here just for the leak.

huh well that's pretty poor of the company that can't be hacked to get hacked!

it seems odd that someone would go to such lengths to get this music? i mean if some shit head music reviewer was like bugger it I'm going to release this all over the internet! then it's easy for them, they just hit send they already have access to it all.
but to setup a fake account and all that BS and get this out there? seems like way too much effort? unless they have a good reason? but i can't see any other than them being a shithead.

plus! if you sign up to any sort of forum or something you get asked a few questions sure all the normal stuff but if you sign up to something like this music transfer thingy surely you get a few more questions asked and a little bit more of an in depth look at exactly who you are and what your business is with this music?

hmm... hint hint?

a teenager posed as an Australian music critic? Brucini, I know you're down under...

only kidding! I wouldn't go so far as to call this person a 'shithead'. I think it is hilarious that some random kid with probably average Internet know-how so easily got access to something this company largely profits from. How sad.

It's like, hey your music was accessed. We only provide you with one service, and that's to keep your music safe until your release date. We promise. But we dropped the ball on this one. The account was promptly closed up, but yeah, sorry... they got your music. We are completely useless and this just shows how pathetic our business model is. The evil hackers! Thanks for your business.

Well, that shithead rocks in my opinion.

Well I would think The Black Keys could file suit against that company to recover the estimated losses, no? I certainly would.

It would be tough for everyone to agree on what the potential/actual damages were though.

Tough to estimate how many people would have bought the album, but didn't because they downloaded it instead.

But still, they should have to pay the price somehow. If I don't do my job, I get fired. Why shouldn't they?

"Go to such lengths to get this music." What do you mean, it sounds to me like they barely put any effort into getting it at all. He wasn't really a music reviewer, it was a rouse... so he didn't have access to the music already. That's his reason.

"Tough to estimate how many people would have bought the album, but didn't because they downloaded it instead."

Well at this point that's 100% going to happen anyway after it's released legitimately. The question, I guess, is how much having it leaked 3 weeks early will affect sales. My guess is not ALL that much. These days I think most people who buy the album choose to regardless of the availability of a pirated version. And the rest were never going to buy it anyway. I have no data but I think a very small percentage of people actually change their minds about buying an album after finding it online. Lost sales = minimal.

It seems like WB would at least ask for a refund from the company that is supposed to keep it from being leaked, when...it gets leaked.
