I never said TBK sold out. But when you're on a label that's owned by Warner Brothers, which in turn is owned by a liquor company business is done differently than when you're a smaller label owned by music lovers. When you're on a major and you deliver your new album to them for release, if the A&R guy says," I don't hear a single", you may have to make compromises in order to get your record released or get the promotions budget you want. Compromises like having a track produced by a famous producer. And since the Dangermouse prod. song got chosen as the lead single, it stands to reason this may have been a compromise Dan and Patrick made in order to get the album out in stores where we can all get our hot little hands on it. If so, I got no beef with them. My beef is with Nonesuch/ Warners for screwing with my favorite band, and for anybody who honestly thinks TBK NEEDS Dangermouse to sell a record, which we all know they do not.

It's as simple as this, THE BLACK KEYS could record an album of nursery rhymes with Dangermouse producing and i'd buy it. I absolutely adore everything they do, Dan has the greatest voice in rock today. As far as im concerned Dan is the greatest rock n' roll vocalist since JOHN LENNON (that's just my opinion). THE BLACK KEYS are absolute monsters and as long as they keep recording and releasing records, everything is right with the world. Posted 1 year ago #

"My beef is with Nonesuch/ Warners for screwing with my favorite band, and for anybody who honestly thinks TBK NEEDS Dangermouse to sell a record..." TBK has 100% control over what they play and what they record. If you think otherwise, you really don't understand what makes them what they are. The label work for them, not the other way around. It may be different for other bands, and other labels; but on Nonesuch, TBK does what they want, how they want it, and NOBODY has a say in it, outside of Dan and Pat. Posted 1 year ago #

I agree with nappy! TBK have 100 percent control over what they want to do. I do not think Dangermouse producing a track had anything to do with the label. In interviews after A&R was released both Danger Mouse and TBK talked about wanting to work together again. Remember that TBK have been on this label for awhile and it hasnt produced anyhting bad. Also Dan's album came out on Nonesuch and they didnt "push" anything. Lots of paranoia I think. Posted 1 year ago #

I really don't think its paranoia. Its not for me anyway. Its just noticing things that are different with this release. Of course things will be different with each release. Its fairly obvious its being pushed a little bit more than it has in the past. Its not a bad thing. And its ok to notice those things. It doesn't mean you are turning against the band. Opening for KoL, Pearl Jam at Madision Square Garden to me is different than Beck and Radiohead. Radiohead is huge for most music junkies, but I don't hear them a ton on the radio. My wife starts to dry heave now everytime she hears a KoL song come on. Posted 1 year ago #

Yeah, Nappy- I'm sure Warner Bros. sees itself as employees of Dan & Pat, not the other way round. Right. TBK are 2 guys with one of the coolest jobs in America. But, at the end of the day it's still a job, and they still have people they have to answer to besides themselves. Doesn't make them sellouts, just makes them adults. Posted 1 year ago #

Opening for those huge/sellout bands is kind of weird, but if I was a musician, ultimately I would want to get my music out there to as many folks as possible. So I might compromise and play gigs like that even though part of me (or most of me) wanted to say "no way jose". I think it's important to remember - just because a guy or a band does something, doesn't mean they are 100% all for it. Shit, I'm married, I know all about it. Sometimes you do things you have to for the greater good, even though you don't want to. Not trying to kiss their ass, just trying to see things from their perspective. I do think it's bullshit to open for Pearl Jam and Kings of Leon but I kind of understand. It does hurt a little bit to see our guys going in this direction but it was only a matter of time for a band this good. Just try to remember the good old days, and take on the new material with as open of a mind as possible. I try to just keep with the music and forget/ignore the BS like going on the late tv shows and playing gigs with Pearl Jam. I don't want to start talking about how long I've been a diehard fan but we all have those bands that we start digging, and then watch them blow up and get huge and we feel like we shouldn't have to share them with the masses, and we want that intimate feeling back, of seeing the band play for 300 people instead of 300 thousand but what can ya do? Shit happens. "I ain’t sayin’ you treated me unkind. You could have done better but I don’t mind. You just kinda wasted my precious time. But don’t think twice, it’s all right." -Bob Dylan Posted 1 year ago #

But, at the end of the day it's still a job, and they still have people they have to answer to besides themselves. I repeat, they don't do anything, not one thing, they don't want to do. They have 100% artistic control. Now, if the new cd is a flop, and the next one is also, that might change. But, until then, whatever you like about their music, Dan and Pat are responsible for, and whatever you don't like, Dan and Pat are also responsible for. It's pretty easy. Posted 1 year ago #

No way, DangerMouse is ridiculous and so are the Keys. I understand the black keys fans who really miss those old days of Thickfreakness and Rubber Factory, but that simply doesn't seem to be the place Dan and Pat are in right now- at least not completely. I've seen that Next Girl and Everlasting Light are streaming on the internet now, but I've been doing my best to save it all for release, minus Tighten Up. Which blew my mind. Bottom line is- DangerMouse isn't the best thing to ever happen to the Keys, he's just who the Keys like, and enjoy working with at the moment. And besides, I think there may be some old school Keys stapled on this one too, so don't put Brothers away so quickly Posted 1 year ago #

Nappy, you seem to be very sure of the things you say. I don't mean any disrespect but do you know the band personally? In other words, where do you get this info from? No offense. Just an honest question. Thanks. Posted 1 year ago #

I don't understand the logic to this argument. Too much Dangermouse? Dangermouse produced a single, that's one, 1... song. There are 15 songs on this album. Too much Dangermouse? You're less enthused because of this?! Ron Paul 2012 Posted 1 year ago #
